Artist as Muse

Taking their creative counterparts as inspiration, the featured photographers turn artists into subjects. Portraits by Richard Avedon (John Ford), Eve Arnold (Orson Wells), Yousuf Karsh (Jean Sibelius), and Lewis Morley (Sarah Lucas) encapsulate both the photographer’s signature style and the subject’s public persona, and underscore the interwoven relationship between muse and maker.
