Conversations: Shawn Baron Pinckney & Lauren E. Peters

Exhibition Website

May 5 2017 - May 29 2017

Lauren E. Peters' fearless examination of her image through a series of portraits inspires us to contemplate our own sense of self, while Shawn Baron Pinckney's beautiful costume portrayal of a conversation between Harriet Tubman and Thomas Garrett evokes the courage to identify modern forms of enslavement and triumph. Both artists elicit a dialogue between the internal and external, and ultimately provoke the viewer to turn inward. Step into this exhibit and consider how historical events have shaped your life, or how clothes define you in this moment. How do these things affect your view of others? From what do you need to be set free?
