In addition to his own works, Joseph Jeffers Dodge generously donated over 65 prints, drawings, paintings, and sculptures to the Cummer Museum of Art.
This exhibition will not only highlight the breadth of his interests but explore how his activities as a collector informed his artistic journey. Dodge’s astute appreciation of works by old masters to modern icons has left us with great gifts among which a beautiful drawing by Italian Renaissance artist Palma Giovane, one of Charles-Louis Clérisseau’s famous gouache featuring Roman ruins, a nude study by André Lhote, a bold sculpture by David Smith, and an etching by Picasso depicting an artist and his model, a subject matter recurrent in Dodge’s oeuvre.
