CAM presents Color Key, a Front Room exhibition of work by the recipients of the 8th Annual Creative Stimulus Awards: Ellie Balk, Addoley Dzegede, and Amy Reidel. Sponsored by Critical Mass for the Visual Arts, the juried award recognizes artists for their outstanding work and their commitment to career development. Balk is a public artist who makes use of mathematics, data visualization, and colorful abstraction, creating informational systems for the purpose of inspiring community investigation and interaction. Dzegede, a Ghanaian-American artist, works with mixed media, combining words and images to explore ideas of belonging, home, location, and identity. Reidel employs such scientific image bases as Doppler radar and color MRIs to express metaphors for emotional and physical conditions. She fabricates relationships between these colorful found images, religious iconography, and personal memories to access themes of loss, mortality, immortality, joy, and love.
