Loas, History and Memory is a major exhibition which explores the contemporary significance of Haitian art. With paintings done by some of Haiti’s major 20th century artists and working in collaboration with the Centre D’ Art in Port au Prince, Haiti, the exhibition will also feature new works by the renowned Haitian artist Edouard Duvall Carrie. This exhibition will challenge commonly held ideas about Haiti as a site of exotic strangeness within the Americas, and offer new ways of understanding Haitian art. This exhibition has been curated by Professor Anthony Bogues, Asa Messer Professor of Humanities and Professor of Africana studies and African Diaspora art at Brown University.
