Exhibition Website

Mar 1 2017 - Jun 4 2017

The artists:

Julie Chen (Berkeley, CA) gained worldwide recognition for pushing structural boundaries with her 3-dimensional and moveable book structures. She is widely celebrated for her impeccable craft that unifies form and content.

Elsi Vassdal Ellis (Bellingham, WA) is dedicated to content. She presents difficult and emotionally charged material with elegant control and artistry, without ever allowing her personal opinions or reactions to intrude.

Donald Glaister (Vashon Is, WA) has been celebrated for his stunning design bindings that employ unexpected materials and visual humor. In 2002 he expanded his art into creating limited edition books that incorporate his own painting, sculpture, and poetry.

Charles Hobson (San Francisco, CA) is renowned for the three-dimensional and tactile nature of his work. Collaborating with writers, he creates surprising structures that echo and extend the content of his books.

Suzanne Moore (Vashon Is, WA), a master lettering artist and teacher, specializes in painting, calligraphy and imaginative design. She layers monoprint techniques and letterforms to create the illusion of depth on the two-dimensional pages of her books.

Lois Morrison (Leonia, NJ) creates unique books in fabric and limited edition books in paper. Her work has been described as “imaginative, contemplative, whimsical and often touching.” We would add “mysterious, provocative and irresistible.”
