Beyond Boundaries: Feminine Forms is a collaborative exhibition between PAFA and Bryn Mawr College Special Collections. The exhibition draws from PAFA's Linda Lee Alter Collection of Art by Women and Bryn Mawr College Special Collections' William and Uytendale Scott Memorial Study Collection of Works by Women Artists.
The sister exhibitions will feature each collection at its own site and will be united by a catalog, which investigates the common themes in the works across the two locations.
Beyond Boundaries explores the representational iterations and possibilities of feminine forms as ever-changing entities of experience. Situated across two sites, institutions, collections, and curatorial teams, the exhibition breaks physical and conceptual boundaries as they challenge ideological and visual traditions of landscape, fantasy, myth, and spirituality in relation to feminine experience.
Ultimately, Beyond Boundaries reveals how artists such as Kara Walker, Lesley Dill, Betye Saar, Edna Andrade, Eleanor Heller, Nancy Spero, Joan Mitchell, and Kay Walkingstick, among others, reimagine and expand conceptions of feminine embodiment across time and space.
