The Dorner Prize is an annual juried competition that invites RISD student artists and designers to create new installations, performances, programs, or digital encounters that engage the public by using the RISD Museum’s spaces, objects, and digital platforms. [....]

This year’s Dorner Prize was awarded to two projects, White Wall, installed on the Museum’s façade on Benefit Street, and the performance Strand, on view Tuesday, April 27 through Sunday, May 7, 2017. [....]

White Wall [....] is a bamboo screen and performance space that formalizes the invisible socioeconomic obstructions to museum accessibility. [....]

Strand focuses on the 400-year history of slavery and resulting civil rights movements in the United States, and more specifically within Rhode Island. [....]
