Americans At Home and Abroad

Exhibition Website

Feb 7 2017 - May 27 2017

This exhibition features approximately 45 works of art from the Mulvane’s permanent collection made by American artists before 1930. The overall theme of the exhibition is Identity and Engagement.

American artists longed to build a national culture for their new nation. However, they also sought to compete with the best of European art. Though not mutually exclusive, the importance of these two goals waxed and waned over the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as explored in this exhibition.
