The glow of a candle, the rise of the Sun and the illumination of a lamp all bring comfort and warmth to our lives, but there is much more to light than meets the eye. Light is more the simply the illumination of a light bulb or the sun. Light is a key factor in the creation of a successful image. It takes on many forms, many which are largely invisible and undetectable without modern technology. Light allows us to communicate, entertain, explore and understand our world.

LIGHT: Beyond the Bulb illuminates the myriad of things light can do, and how it plays a critical role in our everyday lives. The exhibition draws from a collection images that originated from a call to the scientific community and to photographers for images which supported the 2015 International Year of Light. Our Evansville Visitors & Convention Bureau Center for History and Science display of Light: Beyond the Bulb includes beautiful images, engaging captions and interactive exhibits that convey some of the amazing things light can do.

Over 30 images are included in the display, each curated to illuminate a broad a range of the electromagnetic spectrum. A visit to the Light: Beyond the Bulb will reveal multidisciplinary connections with physics, optics, earth sciences, astrophysics and art and bring warmth to your soul as only light can during this the coldest of seasons.
