For six decades, the Evansville Museum’s regional competition, the Mid-States, has provided our guests with a unique overview of the development in trends and techniques of artists in the Midwest. This retrospective exhibition salutes the accomplishments of many of the Indiana artists who participated in the experience. Presented as part of the State of Indiana’s Bicentennial celebration, award-winning works by 32 Hoosier artists in the Mid-States Collection have been selected for inclusion in this exhibition.
Students and faculty members of universities throughout the state have strongly supported the Mid-States. Also well represented with art in the collection are teachers, designers, and studio artists who were born in Evansville and went on to pursue careers elsewhere and many who came to our city to study or establish their lives here.
