Cleverly combining aspects of Cuban, Mexican and American cultures, Luna creates a new language in his work illustrating universal themes such as passion, humor, conflict and sensuality. The lush and rich imagery of Luna’s work encompass a unique mystical quality that draws the viewer into a dream-like world alive with continuous movement, vibrant color, and intense emotion. RAM will showcase over 30 pieces by Luna that include mixed media on wood, oil on canvas, and large-scale Jacquard tapestries.
Born and raised in a small rural town in the province of Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Carlos Luna painted from childhood and attended San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana. He later attended The National School of Visual Arts (ENAP) and eventually the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana, during one of Cuba’s most innovative and vigorous movements “Art of the 80s,” which put Cuba back on the map of the international art world.
