On Distant Shores: Landscapes by Constable and Kensett

Exhibition Website

Feb 10 2017 - Jul 9 2017

On loan for the spring semester from the Currier Museum of Art, Dedham Lock and Mill (1820), a depiction of the serene English countryside by pioneering landscapist John Constable, hangs next to the Davis Museum's Mount Washington from the Valley of Conway (1851) by Hudson River School painter John Frederick Kensett.  This pairing creates the enviable opportunity for close side-by-side analysis of the multivalent influences and philosophical convictions that informed British and American landscape painting in the 19th century.
