In celebration of the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum's move to its magnificent new facility, the Museum opened its doors on October 28, 2016, with an exhibition entitled Core Sample: Selections from the Permanent Collection. This exhibition presents a journey through time in the history of ceramic art. Approximately 160 pieces are on view, featuring the art of the renowned Alfred University ceramic art faculty as well as other major 20th and 21st century American and International ceramic artists.  In addition are extraordinary works by what the Museum terms "Ancestors" – a collection of ceramic art of the ancient Americas as well as Japanese, Chinese, Korean, African and American Indian masterpieces. Featured as well are the astonishing works from the Museum's MFA collection. This unique collection represents the creativity and intellectual rigor of those artists who have received master's degrees in ceramic art from Alfred University.
