Get an in-depth look at how World War I impacted life in South Carolina.
Discover what life was like in the palmetto state on the eve of World War I, learn why America decided to join the war, examine the efforts South Carolina took to build up military forces, explore the war time experiences of overseas South Carolina soldiers and more.
In this exhibit, guests will travel back to the beginning of the 20th century, when South Carolina was still recovering from the Civil War. South Carolinians strongly supported the war and eight South Carolinians who joined the military earned the Medal of Honor. The exhibit will display the pistol of one of these soldiers, Lt. James Dozier, who used used it during the engagement where he earned his Medal of Honor.
