Byron Ryono: Casting for the Future

Nov 13 2016 - Jan 1 2017

In anticipation of the ICA’s 40th anniversary in 2020, artist Byron Ryono has created 100 unique bronze sculptures to mark the ICA’s first pre-anniversary celebration and fundraiser. These sculpture will be for sale at the ICA for a limited time, this Fall.

Each exclusive sculpture will be available for purchase in the gallery for a limited time this Fall, beginning November 13, 2016 in the ICA lounge. Works will range from $100 to $2,500. The proceeds from the sale of these wonderful works will support the exhibitions and public programs at the ICA.

These diminutive pieces pay homage to the Spanish sculptor Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002). Ryono first encountered Chillida’s sculpture Abesti Agora in Cuenca, Spain in 2000. He was struck by the shape, form, space, texture and color of Chillida’s renown work. Seeing Abesti Agora inspired Ryono to express his reverence for this master in this series After Chillida. While Ryono’s sculptures do not match the formidable scale of Chillida’s work, he has successfully translated the beauty of the massive forms to an intimate scale that makes it easy to gain multiple perspectives of the sculptures.
