Women of a New Tribe

Exhibition Website

Jan 22 2017 - Apr 15 2017

The Women of a New Tribe project is a photographic study of the spiritual and physical beauty of African American women. It is an attempt to see in a new light and in a new way an incredible group of women. The women portrayed represent the African American woman in many of her social and physical manifestations. The subjects come from all walks and stages of life. They are mothers and daughters, artists, professionals, and community activists. The black-and-white photographs are done in a style reminiscent of the high glamour photography of the 1930s and 40s Hollywood. Professional portraits will be created by photographer Jerry Taliaferro. This exhibition is part of a larger project that has travelled to a number of cities in the United States.
