Bremerton based sculptor Alan Newberg’s exhibitions focus on his most recent series of abstract wood sculptures, with some earlier pieces included for context. His large abstract and semi-abstract carvings are made of fine woods, including black walnut, English walnut and clear vertical grain fir. The largest of these sculptures is over 9 feet tall.
Newberg’s themes vary – some artworks suggest elements from nature, including human or animal subjects - while others are abstractions using geometric pieces with straight lines and hard edges. The artist’s inspirations include science (such as physics, astronomy and biology) as well as contemporary literature and social issues.
