From the 1930s to the 1980s, the printed image in American art captured the imagination of countless American artists who went through profound changes, beginning with the black and white lithographs that were popularized by the regionalists and urban realists. Throughout the 1940s and 1950s artists explored the art of intaglio printmaking, that led to the ‘Pop’ screen print explosion in the 1960s. This exhibition of 51 American prints surveys the activities of the revolutionary artists who forever changed the art of printmaking during this exciting period. Artists include Milton Avery, Robert Motherwell, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and Richard Estes.
