Ross Hilgers : Ceramic Works

My work is primarily inspired by the versatility of clay as a material. Clay ranges in consistency from a liquid to a dry solid, and these property variations influence both my content and compositional decisions. Consequently, I attempt to reach the viewer through a variety of abstract topics and sculptural arrangements based upon how I can most successfully tap the potential of clay as a vehicle for visual communication. This artist statement is intentionally elusive because I want to give the viewer an entry point for reflecting upon my work without offering details that could potentially obstruct the creative thinking required of the viewer when actively involved in the process of contemplating visual art.
