This annual exhibit has transformed into a display far beyond anything Ruth West could have imaged when she introduced the first Tablesetting Exhibit at the Rahr West Art Museum more than 40 years ago.
Originally this exhibit featured traditional tablesettings of fine china & crystal, but over the years it has taken on a life of its own. It’s not unusual to find tin plates or coconut shells in place of china & crystal; paint pails or a picnic blanket used as the table; and settings such as a frontier wagon, a tent or a sandy beach. The possibilities are endless; limited only by the imagination of the designers.
