A Fresh Look: Children Curate from BMOA’s Permanent Collection

A group of children, ages 7-12, were selected from BMOA’s summer art camp program to give “a fresh look” at the Museum’s permanent collection. Together with Curatorial and Education staff, these children prepared this exhibition on display in the Chevron Gallery. 

Throughout the month long program, the team of junior-curators learned about the Museum and gained an understanding of the in-depth process involved in putting together an exhibition. Working as a team the group considered a cohesive theme, wrote the wall labels, choose the design elements, and finally installed the exhibition. The selection of work on display allows Museum visitors and staff alike to take A Fresh Look and gain a child-like perspective on the BMOA’s growing collection of California Art.
