Fauvism was an avant-garde movement that flourished in France in the early years of the 20th century. The Fauve painters, Matisse among them expressed their spontaneous, often subjective response to nature in bold, undisguised brushstrokes and high-keyed, vibrant colors. Cesari, originally from Nice, joins the French modernist style with the subjects and places of his Connecticut home and experience.
