Frédéric Brenner: Icon Series

A series of black-and-white portraits by internationally acclaimed French photographer, Frédéric Brenner. This series represents famous American Jews photographed by Brenner at Ellis Island depicting icons such as: artist, Roy Lichtenstein; feminist writer and activist, Betty Friedan; sex therapist, Dr. Ruth Wertheimer; playwright, Arthur Miller; designer, Ralph Lauren; and many more. Brenner has been chronicling the Jewish Diaspora in more than 40 countries and on five continents. This series of over 40 portraits pays homage to the American chapter of his journey. 

The artist has previously exhibited at such institutions as The Brooklyn Museum of Art, Norton Museum of Art, the International Center for Photography, Howard Greenberg Gallery, Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the United Nations. The Icon Series is generously on loan by private collector, Joan Olden.
