Exhibition Website

Nov 8 2016 - Nov 12 2017

Spotlight: Latin America will celebrate the contributions of 37 artists from the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America. The paintings, prints, photographs, drawings and sculptural works—roughly 50 in all—will be drawn mostly from the Harn’s modern, contemporary and photography collections with additional loans from private Gainesville collectors. The works will be organized along broad themes including portraiture, figural studies, abstraction, architecture, spirituality and religious expression, the nostalgia of childhood, and the celebration of indigenous culture, music and dance.

The exhibition will feature artists representing Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Uruguay. It will include many famous names in Latin American art such as Ángel Botello, Lorenzo Homar, Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, René Portocarrero, Alfredo Ramos Martínez, Diego Rivera, Sebastião Salgado, Rufino Tamayo, Joaquín Torres-García, Rafael Tufiño and Francisco Zúñiga.
