From the Collection: Artists of Hillsborough County

Exhibition Website

- Aug 2018

Neighboring Hillsborough county has a rich history of the visual arts dating back to the 19th century when the activities at Fort Brook and the Tampa Bay Hotel attracted artists to the area. In the 20th century, educational institutions, including the University of Tampa, Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida, developed strong art programs that have influenced many of the contemporary artists working today.

Additionally, the University of South Florida has attracted important artists, art educators, master printers and printmaking technicians to its nationally-recognized Graphicstudio: Institute for Research in Art. Begun in 1969, Graphicstudio has invited national and international artists to work in a collaborative setting to advance the development of materials and techniques in printmaking. Their reputation has provided recognition to Tampa as an important center for contemporary art.

All the works in this installation are from the collection of the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art and are intended to introduce audiences to some of the artists who have contributed to the development of the arts in Hillsborough County.
