From the Heart: Folk Art on Paper

Exhibition Website

Aug 6 2016 - Nov 13 2016

Visual art does not spring from formal training alone. Folk artists are generally self-taught, allowing them the freedom to produce artworks unencumbered by the stipulations of rigorous study. Often employing unusual methods or materials, these artists create imagery both soulful and inspirational. The Museum of Fine Arts’ permanent collection includes important works of this kind by artists such as Bill Traylor and Dilmus Hall. In conjunction with the national gathering in St. Petersburg of the Folk Art Society of America, this exhibition will highlight some of these colorful and diverse pieces.
