As part of its 60th Year Celebration, BMOA will proudly share the story of Marion Osborn Cunningham (1908-1948) for whom the original gallery, which later became the Bakersfield Museum of Art, was named in 1956.
A dynamic and inspiring force in the San Francisco art scene during the 1930s and 1940s, Cunningham is known for her silkscreen prints, most notably her colorful reproductions of San Francisco’s famed cable cars. Using photographs, newsprint articles, works from its permanent collection and works loaned by collectors and members of the Walter Osborn family who dedicated the original art gallery in Cunningham’s name, BMOA will highlight the incredible life of this unique and vibrant artist.
