New York City, NY
Dia has commissioned Dominican-American artist Isabel Lewis to realize her signature Occasions in both Beacon and New York City. Lewis’s Occasions stake their own space between performance, philosophical salon, and social party, and take place in designed environments that address all the senses through text, music, dance, plants, food, and scents.
Lewis will realize her signature Occasions over four consecutive weekends between Friday, June 24, and Sunday, July 17, 2016. Lewis’s occasions will be hosted on Friday evenings at Dia:Chelsea in New York City and will continue to unfold on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in partnership with Scenic Hudson at Long Dock Park, which is located adjacent to Dia:Beacon in Beacon, New York. Check museum website for performance times.
Drawing from her background in choreography and literary criticism, Lewis’s singularly defined dramaturgy will engage attendees in an experience that involves everything from theoretical conversations about ecology and olfactory perception, to electronic music interludes and the sway of Kizomba dancers.
