Queens Museum

New York City, NY

A tradition since 2001, the Queens International is a biannual exhibition of artists living and/or working in Queens, which aims to highlight and contextualize the artistic vibrancy of the borough through contemporary cultural productions in all media.

Featured works are a combination of existing and commissioned projects that have been fostered by, and are responsive to, the rapidly globalizing world—ongoing cultural phenomena that the diverse locale of Queens embodies. While featuring a breadth of local artists, the 2016 edition will also include cross-border collaborations between Queens artists and their partners or communities across/outside of the United States.

Selected artists and collaborative bodies are chosen for their perspectives on current worldwide realities catalyzed by changes in foreign policy, migration, climate change, overconsumption, and digital technology. Queens International 2016 will reconsider conventional modes of cultural production, experiment with the methods and contexts of exchange, and navigate between various affiliations, disciplines, temporalities, archetypes, geographies, languages, media interfaces, or histories.
