Since 1976, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum has organized Birds in Art annually, seeking to present the very best contemporary artistic interpretations of birds and related subject matter. Two- and three-dimensional artworks in all media other than crafts and photography are eligible. 

In this, the 45th annual Birds in Art exhibition, 510 artists from around the world submitted 830 works for the jury’s consideration. 114 artists were selected to participate. These include Timothy David Mayhew, named the 2020 Master Artist -- who will be the focus of a solo retrospective within the larger exhibition -- as well as 22 others who have been honored as Master Artists during previous exhibitions, and 91 additional artists selected for their paintings, sculptures, and graphics created within the last three years.

A fully illustrated, four-color catalog accompanies the exhibition.

The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is the first stop in a national tour of the exhibition. It will also travel to the following venues:
