American Moderns in Watercolor: Edward Hopper and His Contemporaries

Exhibition Website

Dec 22 2018 - Mar 17 2019

Edward Hopper and his contemporaries John Marin, Stuart Davis, and Charles Burchfield were increasingly on the move, either by car or foot, observing the changing American landscape.

This exhibition explores how these modern artists uniquely embraced the portable medium of watercolor, experimenting with new subjects, styles, and techniques. American Moderns in Watercolor brings back on view a selection of beloved watercolor masterworks from the museum’s collection.
