Exhibition Website

Oct 18 2019 - Mar 15 2020

The Blue Jackal Under the Tree will feature recent work by artist and East Carolina University School of Art and Design Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor, Linda Adele Goodine. The exhibition will consist of a series of photographs, videos, and soundscapes derived from research Goodine completed in India, where she worked on location in and around the confluences of India’s Alaknanda and Bhagirathi Rivers, both tributaries of the Ganges. Through photographs, video, and sound, the artist records the transition from the dry season to the monsoon season. Here, land use and water scarcity intersect with labor, gender, and environmental issues.

The Blue Jackal series serves as both a timely record of place and a vehicle for the exploration of rich conceptual themes connected to India’s diverse peoples and ancient traditions, especially in relation to the land, the water, and the body. Her thematic explorations send a message that urges viewers to think globally but act locally.
