In the House: Recent Acquisitions

Exhibition Website

Nov 29 2018 - Oct 29 2019

In the House: Recent Acquisitions features a selection of primarily contemporary works acquired by the museum over the last few years. Consisting of gifts from the Dawn and Duncan MacNaughton collection, the James Jensen Estate, as well as other gifts and purchases, the exhibition provides visitors an opportunity to see firsthand how recent acquisitions bring new focus to the collection as well as enhance existing areas of interest.

Selected works are organized around themes including abstraction, nature and the environment, portraits and the figure, sculpture, and preparatory drawings related to three-dimensional work. The inclusion of internationally recognized and Hawai‘i-based artists draws attention to Hawai‘i’s important role in the international contemporary art community. Featured are works by Robert Brady, Robert Colescott, Llyn Foulkes, Jane Hammond, Claude Horan, Winnifred Hudson, André Kertész, Sanit Khewhok, Cheryl Laemmle, Hollis Sigler, and Donald Sultan, among others.

Through mindful curation, the museum continues its dedication to the exhibition and preservation of art for generations of Hawai‘i’s residents and visitors.
