Artists have used various media to contain, shape and manipulate nature. Whether it be the landscape architect, the painter or photographer, each one arranges plant life to convey a specific aesthetic. The works drawn from the permanent collection are representative of the breath of interpretations by twentieth century artists to manipulate the natural world. From substituting foliage for hair or trees for columns, artists have provided unique uses for the botanical world. Inversely, some of the artist in the exhibition employ man-made objects to convey the idea of a garden.
