Prints And Book Arts By Eckhard Froeschlin

Exhibition Website

Sep 30 2018 - Oct 26 2018

German book artist Eckhard Froeschlin brings examples of his impressive collection of bound artist’s books to the Center for Contemporary Printmaking. Each book, curated by Eckhard’s very own artist’s press in Southern Germany, Edition Schwarze Seite, will be on display along with framed examples of unbound artist prints.

Text-based prints referencing traditional literature as well as contemporary writings are juxtaposed on the page with artists prints on each facing page, then bound together into unique books. These artist’s books under Eckhard’s direction begin with the commissioning of the visual elements by well-respected international printmakers. The images are editioned (printed multiple times by hand) and then sent to Eckhard who, using lead set type, prints the text alongside the imagery. Once all of the information is printed, the prints are then sent to be bound by a professional bookbinder.

This exhibition provides a glimpse into the inner-workings of creating artist books, a unique medium where intimate and thoughtful representations of text and image harmonize.
