Weston Teruya will be producing a new paper sculptural installation that examines the social dynamics, textures, and histories of specific sites and communities in Hawai‘i using found paper and objects while in residence. Found material serves to evoke memory via spaces, haunting and persistent. Teruya appreciates the moment of slippage that occurs when a viewer realizes that a sculpture is not as solid as they first presumed and then begins to question the solidity and construction of the rest of their surroundings.
