Dies: Serge Marchetta

The Delaware Contemporary is pleased to present DIES, an exhibition featuring the work of Canadian artist, Serge Marchetta in the E. Avery Draper Gallery. Marchetta captures, manipulates, and ultimately transforms natural light into experiments that culminate in an immersive video and sound installation. DIES, the Latin term for daylight, is a close investigation of the interplay between the dependability of line and ephemerality of light. Assembling multi-sensory experiences such as sound, light, and photography, Marchetta's installation disrupts the conception of space, time, and dimension. He invites viewers to immerse themselves in their surroundings, listening to and looking at what's there, not just as a visitor, but as a participant. Marchetta's manipulation of digital photography with nuanced color fields of contrast and subtle linear aesthetics, appeals to the minimalistic tradition. Marchetta's work transcends traditional photography to form a complex concept and illusion subverting conventional materials.
