The Museum Project was established in 2012 by a distinguished group of American artists to express their gratitude for the institutional support of photography as an art form by donating their work to museums throughout the country. After spending several months culling through more than 400 images, the LRMA curatorial staff selected fifty-four photographs from nine artists for donation to the museum’s contemporary photography collection. This selection reflects a multitude of contemporary perspectives, diverse styles, concepts and photographic processes. Participating artists, such as Darryl Curran, pioneered experimental techniques while others are known for their unique style, including Bonnie Schiffman’s celebrity portraits featured on Saturday Night Live and in Rolling Stone magazine. The Museum Project has donated more than 3,000 prints to 130 institutions throughout North America, Australia, and France.
