Xu Bing: The Character of Characters

Xu Bing (Chinese, born 1955) is a current A. D White Professor-at-Large (2015-21). His playful and poetic animation video The Character of Characters (2012) expresses his views on the Chinese writing system as fundamental to Chinese culture and its progress toward the future. The installation will be featured alongside select works of Chinese art from the Johnson's collection.
