This installation centers on a rare life-size Chinese sculpture of the Buddha. One of only three known sixth-century Chinese lacquer Buddhas, the Walters sculpture has recently been the focus of pioneering conservation-science research and was featured in the exhibition Secrets of the Lacquer Buddha at the Freer|Sackler Galleries. Upon the sculpture’s return, these new discoveries will be shared in this installation welcoming the Buddha back to the Walters.
