Mass-produced from the 17th through the 19th century for an emerging middle-class, Japanese woodblock prints are celebrated for their bold colors and enticing subject matter. This exhibition of approximately 60 works will explore the specific roles of the individuals involved in making Japanese woodblock prints—the artist, carver, printer, and publisher—to highlight the enterprising ventures and unique materials and techniques that elevated this medium into one of the hallmarks of Japanese artistic achievement.
