Between Bodies

Oct 27 2018 - Apr 28 2019

This group exhibition features sculptural and video-based installations that consider the entwined relationships between the human and more-than-human within contexts of ongoing ecological change. In various and different ways, these artworks narrate, visualize, and speculate on the interconnected relations and intimate exchanges between bodies and their environments. They engage feminist, queer, and indigenous knowledge frameworks to consider dynamic forms of agency across animate and “inanimate” matter, blur the false divide between nature and culture, and question what it means to be human in a time of global climate change.

Sensory, affective, and embodied explorations are central to the artworks in this exhibition, stimulating ways of knowing that exceed the quantified data and compartmentalizing structures of Western scientific study. In this way, the title of the exhibition, Between Bodies, relates to the entangled relationships between humans and the rest of the material world, and also to intersections between bodies of knowledge. Multiple forms of intelligence converge and flow in and through these works, inviting hybrid ways of seeing, thinking, and imagining possibilities for being on a damaged planet.
