Clark Art Institute

Williamstown, MA

Jennifer Steinkamp is a Los Angeles–based media and installation artist who digitally animates natural and abstract forms. This exhibition is the Clark’s inaugural video installation, featuring six of the artist’s most immersive projections. Steinkamp investigates such themes as the passage of time, addiction and beauty, and the evolution of organic matter. Branches, leaves, and flowers intertwine and overlap in her animations, twisting and changing color in deeply transformative ways. She employs video projectors to display each creation on the walls of the gallery so it fills the space fully, interacts with the architecture, and engages the visitor in a meditative interpretation of nature.

Steinkamp has been the subject of a number of monographic exhibitions, and her work can be found internationally in public and private collections. A highlight of Jennifer Steinkamp: Blind Eye will be a never-before exhibited piece conceived by the artist in tandem with the Clark’s natural setting and Tadao Ando’s Lunder Center.
