James G. Davis: A Tribute

Exhibition Website

Jul 6 2018 - Sep 16 2018

The paintings and works on paper by Tucson artist James G. Davis (1938-2016) are personal narratives that rely on autobiography for their inspiration. Dark and mysterious, Davis’s works are imbued with an inexplicable sense of impending doom, yet wryly humorous in their conveyance of familial drama. The intentional uneasiness in his interior scenes derives from his claustrophobic spaces, while the tension in his figurative works set in nature are apparent in the juxtaposition of the figure to land or sea. Davis was a long-time resident of the Rancho Linda Vista artist community in Oracle, Arizona. This exhibition will present some of his iconic paintings and graphics spanning four decades.
