The Nasher Museum opened in 2005 with a vision of recognizing and supporting artists ahead of the art market, with an emphasis on diversity and artists who have been under-recognized, especially artists of color, women artists and those working outside of conventional art centers. Works in the exhibition date from 1970 through 2017 and engage issues such as cultural identity and social justice.

Pruitt, Dario Robleto, Jim Roche, Amy Sherald, Xaviera Simmons, Henry Taylor, Hank Willis Thomas, Mickalene Thomas, Stacy Lynn Waddell, Nari Ward, Carrie Mae Weems, Jeff Whetstone, Kehinde Wiley, Fred Wilson, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, and Nettie Young (Gee’s Bend).
