A pair of monumental works by one of the most influential sculptors working today

Explore two majestic works by renowned artist Ursula von Rydingsvard in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden. First constructed in cedar and then cast in bronze and urethane resin, these lyrical sculptures exemplify the artist’s complex approach to scale, material, and technique. Now, She coincides with a major exhibition devoted to the sculptor’s work at the Fabric Workshop and Museum.

Bronze Bowl with Lace
One of the artist’s most ambitious works, this regal bronze sculpture stands nearly twenty feet tall and features a delicately perforated section at the top. Lit from within with a soft amber light, the sculpture slowly fuses with the sky at night. The artist affectionately refers to this work as the “bronze princess.”

Elegantka II
This ice-blue column spirals gently from a narrow base through a rough, knotty midsection into a voluminous top. The artist describes the textured surface of this ten-foot-tall sculpture—an exact urethane resin cast of a cedar model—as “feathers of a wet bird.
