Jorge Galvan: Paisaje Rojo/Passage Rot and Alkanzíyya

Working in a range of media that encompasses painting, textile, soft sculpture and video projection, Jorge Galvan’s multimedia practice explores themes of identity, place, and memory. Selections from two of the artist’s previous solo exhibitions Paisaje Rojo/Passage Rot and Alkanzíyya culminate in the Ulrich Underground. 

Together the works probe an array of premises that range from the relationship between one’s sense of personal identity and the built-landscape, to the ways in which technology can activate memory and facilitate nostalgia, to the fact that although certain physical and psychological borders can be transgressed through the assistance of virtual portals sometimes specific longings remain which cannot be vanquished.
